The World Leadership Forum has announced the winners of The 2008 Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards during a lavish dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel hosted by Angela Lamont.
The Awards which are now in their 13th year have attracted hundreds of entries from aerospace writers and broadcasters. It has become the most important international awards for aerospace and defence writers, helping establish the profile of aerospace journalism at home and internationally. Consisting of 17 categories ranging from Best Air Show Report to Best Regional Aircraft Submission, this awards ceremony truly does recognise excellence in aerospace journalism.
The awards which are hosted by London based World Leadership Forum in conjunction with the Royal Aeronautical Society, take place the day before the Farnborough Air show and every alternative year in Paris. This year Farnborough celebrates their 60th successful year, commemorating its first show in 1948 held for the very first time at the Farnborough Aerodrome.
The Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards were sponsored by Bombardier, Rockwell Collins, DVB Bank, Boeing, Cessna, Singapore Technologies Engineering, Embraer, The Royal Aeronautical Society, ITT and Honeywell.
David Hughes won the Rockwell Collins Award for Best Avionics Submission and the Gulfstream Award for the Aerospace Journalist of the Year (given to the most outstanding winner across all the categories). Perry Flint picked up the Royal Aeronautical Society Decade of Excellence Award.
NOTE TO EDITORS: The Aerospace Journalist of the Year Awards were open to journalists around the world who could submit news stories and features of up to 7,500 words that had been published or transmitted in the year ending February 2008. Each category was judged by a panel of five judges including prominent journalists, industry experts and representatives of professional institutions. The winner of the Royal Aeronautical Society Decade of Excellence Award was chosen from journalists who had been nominated by their peers.
